So thankful

I am humbled and thankful today. Not only was I voted in as the March guest designer for Sketchy Thursdays yesterday, but I was also a favorite again this week. Wow! Really, it is more than I can almost take in. Thanks so much Sketchy Thursdays! I can't wait to work with you all during March!

2.17 Sketchy Thursdays

The 2.17 sketch for Sketchy Thursdays comes down today, so here I am with my entry. Here is the sketch...

And here is my entry.

This is the last of the photos of the father-daughter dance. It was a great event that gave me a LOT of scrapable photos! Gotta love that!

Thanks for stopping by.

Last of my February Sweet Peach layouts

This is the last layout I have using my Sweet Peach kit for February. I am excited to get the March one.

I have really loved these shots of DD from the father-daughter dance. I know, obviously. I keep using them. (I even have one more layout coming with photos from this night. :-)) DD just looked so pretty and she was having a blast with the photo shoot. This layout is with out "outtake" shots. She was just goofing off.

2nd February Challenge Better Living Through Scrapbooking!

This one is to create a layout without words, just letting the photo speak for itself. AGGHHH!!! No words! I mean my titles are simple enough, but nothing!!! Really!!! But I did the challenge

I am really loving all these photos I took from the father-daughter dance. They are all so sweet!

I used the February Sweet Peach Crop Shop kit for this layout. It is perfect for this photo. I think it speaks for itself!

Make sure to head over to the Better Living Through Scrapbooking site for all the details on the 2nd challenge of the month!

So excited here... announce that I have been hired on as a staffer at Scrapbook News and Review! It is an incredible honor and I am really looking forward to jumping in! Thanks SNR!

Sketchy Thursdays March Guest Sketch

I did not think I would be able to get this one done. My parents are here visiting and even though I started this layout a few days ago, it was not going well. So this morning I scrapped it, as in it is finished and in the pile to be put in an album, but not here. But then I got an idea for this page, and it came together so easily!

The sketch plus the additional criteria of using red & turquoise, hearts, and a list about someone I love. Check, check, check. Here is my list...

And then, I really like these hearts...

Sketchy Thursdays 2.10

This week's Sketchy Thursdays layout is fun.

I used some bright colors, which is a little out of the norm for me, but it seemed to work for these awesome pictures of my oldest on Christmas. And I still had plenty of white space.

Thanks for stopping by!

Monochromatic layout

This was for the Sweet Peach Crop Shop's Thursday challenge. Not my favorite layout, but it is ok.

But it is Wednesday, which means if the Sketchy Thursday's layout is going up, I'd better finish it! It is on my table right now, needing to stuck together and any other details need to be added. I need to do this before I lose all the light for the day, which means I need to get to work so I can play some!

A couple of layouts

These are using the February Sweet Peach Crop Shop juicy kit. It is sold out now, but I was lucky enough to get pieces of a kit. I will settle for pieces. Especially since I really always get the paper and that is my favorite part!

Today is the gallery update day, so make sure you go check it out!

A sweet girl

Yesterday in a mad rush to finish my Sketchy Thursdays layout, I rushed into my craft room the second I walked in the door from getting my preschooler. This is not our normal routine, but with only an hour before needing to leave again, and my desire to get my layout completed and posted before that, there could be no relaxing time on the sofa.

She is a good sport and so she hung out with me in my cold basement cave. I had cleaned out my embellishments and had hit up the sales at Michaels, so she had a bunch of new stickers and other crafty stuff to play with. She is usually into making cards but yesterday she decided to scrapbook along with me.

After finding a couple of pictures of herself, pulling out the new stickers she wanted to use and having me cut a bunch of rub ons for her, she got to work and created a layout on her own!

She's my crafty girl. And she is a ton of fun to be with. I am so glad for time with her!

Today's gratitude:

1. I am grateful the the awful headache that has hung around all day is finally starting to go away.
2. I am grateful for the honesty of others, even when it is not what I really want to hear. It is nice to know there are still people who can be honest.
3. I am grateful for my favorite sushi buffet. That really hit the spot!

Start over

If you had a chance to start it over, would you? Seriously. I don't mean a "do over" in that you go back to the beginning and try for a different outcome. I mean, if you have to chance to really make a significant change to your life, your world, everything you are used to, would you?

I have been thinking about this lately. Dreaming. Wondering about myself. Am I just a dreamer or could I be a do-er?

Can't imagine what I am talking about? Ok. Here you go...

For whatever reason, you or your spouse come into a sizable amount of money. Sizable meaning, more than you have ever seen but no millions of dollars lottery thing. But enough to really change your "normal". Maybe just enough to cover paying off your house, car or cars, student loans, and any credit card debts with enough left over to to have a cushion. Like $10,000. You can't retire, but wow, this could really change stuff, right? Maybe you are a Dave Ramsey nerd and you are getting all excited in that you could be free! Your suburban life just got easier and you can go to work everyday and not worry so much. Maybe your wife can stop working and stay home with your kids now. Maybe your husband can go look for his dream job. Maybe you can go back to school to advance your career. Maybe that private school tuition doesn't give you a stomach ache. Whatever. What an awesome change!

You pay it all off. Take the two paid for cars and trade them in for a used four wheel drive truck and a Jeep. (Still no payments.) You sell the house and all but your favorite belongings. You get the school records for your kids and take off and start over. Who has this chance? Maybe your heart has dreamt of being a ski instructor or surf school teacher. Maybe you long for desert sunsets or the ocean waves. Maybe you feel drawn to work the land or paint or teach others about Jesus. Maybe the solitude of a mountain cabin calms your soul. Whatever it is, you have the chance to leave behind your old life and start over. Could you do it?

I have wondered this about myself and about my family. Could we just change and leave, with basically nothing. No debt, but no stuff either, and downsize, live simply and happily on less than ever before. Would our lives be as rich or more so? Would our kids hate us forever or would they grow up thinking life is good? Could we change the path we are all on before the groove is so deep that there no way we could get out?

Could you do it?

Today's gratitude:

1. I am grateful we went ahead and let our oldest have a new friend over for a sleepover.
2. I am grateful my dear hubby gave me some alone time away from this girls this afternoon. I needed it.
3. I am grateful for my dreams of a simple life. They may be just dreams right now, but without them I would not have such a clear picture of what to work for.

Sketchy Thursdays 2.3

Another Sketchy Thursdays entry. Here is the sketch...

Here is my take...

This was actually my second try at it. The first time I worked with the sketch I had different papers, different photos and a different idea. And together it did not work for me. This try worked much better.

Thanks for stopping by!

A new Better Living challenge!

The first February Better Living Through Scrapbooking challenge is posted! It is to create a layout about your favorite thing about winter! It was a lot of fun for me because we have had such a REAL winter this year. With SNOW!!!

Here is mine!

As part of the challenge, I used non winter colors of pink and brown and I used a paper punch (a border punch and snowflake punches to make my mask and stencils). Head on over and try out the challenge!

Sunday ramblings

This week was the first week of a photography class I am taking. I love photography and when I happen to get a great shot, I am thrilled! I am an auto mode user. Yes, it is the truth. But for the most part I am happy with the shots I get. But the more I get into photos and scrapbooking, I have been realizing that I really should know how to use my DSLR. Hee hee. So, that's why I am taking my photography class.

So here are two of my first manual mode photos.

Both photos are unedited. I did not edit them on purpose. I mean I am working on taking better photos, so I want to see them unedited. I can change them up later, but for now I will keep them in unedited form. I am pleased. Plus the lighting was cool, which really helps.

I am not trying to impress anyone with my photo taking skills, I just want to be able to take pictures of my girls that I love! I really just want to impress myself by learning and growing in the things that are important to me. Plus, it's fun!

Today's Gratitude:

1. I am grateful for having a weekend at home. I got to spend time with a good friend, have a date night with my dear hubby and spent time on my classes all from my own home. What a joy!
2. I am grateful for the non-school friends that my oldest has. They are great, down-to-earth young ladies who enjoy still being kids and truly care about my daughter.
3. I am grateful for a very imaginative 4 year old, who entertained herself for a large portion of the afternoon.

only some gratitude...

1. I am grateful that my hubby pushed me into getting some chinese takeout. He knows when to push so I get out of my funk.
2. I am grateful all three girls are in bed and I have time to spend with just my dear hubby.
3. I am grateful there was a clean wine glass.

All About Me

So, the awesome picture of my girls at the beach has become a page! The title is "About Me". I know, you are saying it is a layout about the girls, not me! But that is where you are wrong. Sure the picture is of my girls, but the layout itself tells a lot about me.

1. I am the mom to three beautiful girls.
2. I am a scrapbooker. :-)
3. I am the family photographer. (Not that dear hubby is in many photos. He tends to run from the camera. But me, I am in a photo only if I am take a picture of myself in a mirror.)
4. I am a lover of the ocean. The salt air relaxes my muscles and my mood. Sand doesn't bother me at all. My favorite part is arriving near the water. I can feel the tension and stresses just fly away!
5. Salt Life dreamer. I dream all the time of moving and living near the ocean. I want that life so bad, I can taste it. Someday...
6. I seek simplicity in my life, my home and my activities. I do not always achieve this and most days I truly live in some sort of chaos. But simple pleasures and simple times and simple days are always what I desire.

That's About Me.

Woot woot!

Ok, just real quick!

Sketchy Thursdays picked me for a favorite for the 1.27 sketch!

WOW!!! I am so psyched! Look what I get to put on my blog...

Thank you Sketchy Thursdays! I can't wait to try this week's sketch!

Added later on...

I am wiped out. Planning and planning and it is just not coming together. I am too wrapped up in what is new and I am not doing a good job right now making it work. I am putting it down for now and starting something else. Hopefully, tomorrow will open up what I am needing!

Today's gratitude:

1. I am grateful that my dear hubby had something to do tonight. My struggles would have just annoyed him.
2. I am grateful to be getting new glasses and I am anxious they will be here soon.
3. I am grateful that the weekend is almost here. I need more working time, but I need a break too.
